Overview: Perinatologists recognize the benefit of healthy weights in their pre-pregnant women and are looking for better ways to limit weight gain during pregnancy to improve health outcomes for both the mother and the child. Maternal obesity is associated with increased complications of pregnancy, labor and delivery, abnormally large body size of the infant, late fetal death, and birth defects.
The purpose of this study is to determine whether an intervention of exercise and nutrition education is effective at limiting excessive weight gain during pregnancy and can assist in improving quality of life during pregnancy.
