Genetics of Rheumatoid Arthritis Study
Principal Investigator: Joseph Fanciullo, MD
Study Coordinator: Julie Kittelsrud, CNP
Sub-Investigators: Susan Weaver, CNP
Overview: The overall goal of this study is to map and eventually to identify the genes that regulate susceptibility to Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) through a collection of family “trios.” The trios will consist of an adult individual diagnosed with RA and the individual’s two living biological parents.
RA is estimated to have a substantial genetic component, with a heritability of approximately 60%.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Males and females, ages 19 and older
- Diagnosis of RA based on American College of Rheumatology criteria
- Both biological parents must be available and willing to donate a blood sample
Exclusion Criteria:
- Diagnosis of psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease or lupus in the RA patient only
- RA patient is known to be both RF and CCP negative
- To be determined by the study coordinator
