The New Avera Cancer Institute
Opening Fall of 2010
Assisting and guiding life's transformation through grace and technology.
A destination cancer center right here in Sioux Falls.
Avera Cancer Institute Construction Progress
Work continues on the link between ADP1 and the ACI. TCG will soon be setting their frames and glass at the link. Some OR equipment was also installed recently.
The Avera Cancer Institute already provides progressive, comprehensive and integrative care that equals or exceeds that of nationally-known cancer centers. Our new facility, opening in fall 2010, builds upon this history of excellence to create a destination cancer center - right here in Sioux Falls.
Unmatched as a community cancer center, the new Avera Cancer Institute will offer:
- The region's most comprehensive cancer center services in one convenient location
- The region's largest team of cancer experts
- State-of-the-art diagnostics, treatment and healing programs
- A healing environment tailored to meet patient and family needs
Top-level, evidence-based care in a place of healing, hope and inspiration.
"With the Avera Cancer Institute, we have a unique opportunity to reach out and give to the need of all patients - both now and far into the future."
Dr. Kelly McCaul, Avera Hematology and Transplant
An Environment of Healing
The Avera Cancer Institute's indoor and outdoor environment is unlike any other health care building in the region. Patients and their families helped us plan the optimal healing environment with features including:
- An emphasis on nature with use of natural building materials like wood and stone
- An interior atrium featuring indoor water features and abundant native plantings.
- Natural daylight
- Scenic views
- Peaceful places for respite, prayer and meditation
- An expansive exterior green area with native plantings and a walking trail
- An exquisite collection of commissioned art to bring comfort and inspire hope
Clean and Green
The Avera Cancer Institute is designed as a "green" building to promote healing, and to do no harm to our patients, our community or environment.
This is the first health building in our state and region registered as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) project by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Specific measures include energy and water conservation, a passive solar design, indoor air quality, and careful selection of building materials that do not contain toxins known to contribute to cancer and other illnesses.
Our goals include protection of the people who come to us for healing, as well as our environment.
