Time Off

Paid Time Off

Employees receive a competitive vacation accrual rate based on how long they have worked for Avera McKennan. PTO includes standard vacation time, holiday and short term sick leave. PTO begins accruing immediately and the maximum accrual is 320 hours.

What you receive:
0-4 years: 168 hours accrued
5-9 years: 208 hours accrued
10+ years: 248 hours accrued

Extended Sick Leave

Sick leave begins accruing immediately at a rate of 48 hours/year. Maximum accrual is 320 hours.

Bereavement Leave

Up to 24 working hours paid leave are provided for death in the immediate family.

Insurance

Health Insurance

Our health plan covers a broad range of medical needs including clinic visits, inpatient hospital stays, tests, laboratory/X-ray services, emergency services, medical equipment, chiropractic care and more.

Both individual and family plans are available depending on your needs.

Dental Insurance

A low deductible and great diagnostic/preventative care coverage make our dental plan popular among employees.

Other Insurance Available

We also offer a wide range of insurance plans including life, supplemental, disability and long-term care. Voluntary benefits such as critical illness, accident and cancer coverage are also available.

Retirement

Retirement Planning

We offer a complete retirement program so you can plan for your retirement needs. This plan is available to all employees (excluding PRN status) age 21 or older and working 1000 hours/year. The plan begins after one year of employment.

A 403(b) is also available immediately upon employment giving our staff the opportunity to invest pre-tax dollars in their future. Employees who meet the above requirements are also eligible for the 403(b) Match Plan, through which Avera McKennan will match 100% of your 403(b) contributions up to the first 2%. Once eligible for the match, employees are 100% vested in the dollars that are contributed by Avera McKennan.

Flex Spending

Avera McKennan offers flexible spending accounts for employees who wish to set aside a portion of their earnings to pay for qualified medical or dependent care expenses.

Un-reimbursed Medical Expenses

  • Claims may be submitted for medical expenses incurred by yourself, your spouse and all dependents you list on your federal income tax return;
  • Health insurance deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays, routine exams, therapy, hearing aids (including batteries), medications, over-the-counter drugs, orthopedic shoes, crutches, wheelchairs, and etc.;
  • Dental insurance deductibles, co-insurance, braces, x-rays, crowns, dentures, fillings, false teeth;
  • Vision exams, lenses, frames, contacts (including contact solution);
  • The maximum amount an employee can set aside for un-reimbursed medical expenses per plan year is $5,000.

Dependent Care Expenses

  • Claims may be submitted for expenses incurred to care for a dependent of the participant who is are 12 or younger or a dependent or spouse of the participant who is physically or mentally incapable of caring for himself/herself. The maximum amount a family can set aside each year for dependent care expenses per plan year is $5,000.
