Our Challenge
The family is the basic building block of our society. Yet sadly, too many families suffer the harmful effects of conditions like depression, addiction, ADHD, anxiety, anger and aggression, bipolar disorders and more.
Identification of at-risk or ill children and appropriate intervention at an early age are most effective in helping children grow to be healthy and successful academically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
Facts About Behavioral Health
- Anyone can have a behavioral health condition, regardless of age, gender, race or income.
- Half of all lifetime behavioral disorders begin by age 14 (National Institute of Mental Health, 2005).
- Approximately 20% of American school age children are affected by behavioral disorders (Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General, 1999).
- Without treatment, children with behavioral health conditions are at an increased risk of school failure, contact with the criminal justice system, dependence on social services, and suicide.
