Service Modalities

Mammography
A mammogram is an x-ray picture of the breasts.  It is used to find tumors and to tell the difference between non-cancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant) disease.  October is Breat Cancer Awareness Month.  be sure to schedule your routine mammogram by calling 546-3394.  For diagnostic exams, you will need a physicians referral.

  CT
A CT scan, also called a CT, computerized tomography or CAT scan, is an x-ray technique that produces images of your internal organs that are more detailed that those produced by conventional x-ray exams.  CT scans use an x-ray generating device that rotates around your body and a very powerful computer to create a coss-sectional image, like slices, of the inside of your body.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound imaging, scanning or sonography involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures inside the body.  Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.

   MRI
An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging( scan is also a radiology technique that uses magnetism, radio waves and a computer to produce images of body structures.  the MRI scanner is a tube surrounded by a giant circular magnet.  the patient is placed on a moveable bed that is inserted in the magnet.  The magnet creates a strong magnetic field that alligns the protons of hydrogen atoms, which are then exposed to a beam of radio waves.  This spins the various protons of the body, and they produce a faint signal that is detected by the receiver portion of the MRI scanner.  the receiver information is processed by a computer and an image is produced.
 C-Arm
A C-Arm is a portable x-ray machine used in surgery and pain control procedures.

PET CT
A mobile PET CT is available twice a month for patient studies.  The nuclear portion (PET) of this test pinpoints metabolic changes in the body and the CT gives the physician anatomic reference points.  This is especially helpful in marking and watching tumor progression for oncology patients, neurological conditions and cardiovascular disease.

Nuclear Medicine
a mobile unit is avaialble to conduct Nuclear Medicine Function Tests.  This special groups of radiological examinations scan organs and bones.  They can be especially helpful in assessinghow organ functions; locating metastic lesions to the bone; identifying infections, malignancies and recurrences of cancers; evaluate effectiveness of therapy for cancer; and evaluate transplact functioning.

Features

The Radiology Department featurs state-of-the art digital image reading and storage.  PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System) allows for quicker diagnostics by the radiologists, sometimes from remote locations.

Mammography Accredited

Technologists working at Floyd Valley Hospital are board certified in their respective modalities.

Screenings

The radiology department, in conjunction with Northwest Iowa Diagnostics, conducts an on-site stroke screening.  For more information or screening dates, please contact the Education Department at 712-546-3401.
