Speech Therapy Department

Speech Therapy at Floyd Valley Hospital offers a full spectrum of services for patients aged birth through geriatrics. Services are offered daily with weekend and holiday services available. Currently, 1 full-time therapist is available. Speech Therapy primarily specializes with children through the geriatric popluation.  Therapies include asphasia, articulation, dysphagia, voice, and rehabilitation with cognition and functional independence. In addition, one part-time therapist is available to patients at Floyd Valley Hospital. Floyd Valley Hospital is a relatively small hospital and able to provide hometown caring attitude in treatment. Our patients are our friends and neighbors. We care.

Services We offer many types of therapy. Dysphagia management works in retraining chewing, sucking, and swallowing. Cognitive therapy improves attending, memory, and problem solving to develop independent functioning in daily living. Speech Therapy is used to improve pronunciation of sounds. Language Therapy helps with receptive and expressive language skills. We address written language skills including reading and writing. Voice Therapy is used to obtain use of optimum voice and eliminate abuses. Communication through non-verbal means is evaluated and taught using an electronic communication device or communication books. This department strives to focus on functional independence with the patient helping to set their goals. The patient's needs are our #1 priority at Floyd Valley Hospital.

Floyd Valley Hospital's Speech Therapy Department works closely with other rehabilitation services. Floyd Valley Hospital offers a full line of rehabilitation services including: Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Respiratory Therapy. Rapport has been established with specialists and rehabilitation hospitals to allow continuum of care at home through Floyd Valley Hospital.

Treatments

Videofluoroscopy is used in cooperation with the radiology department to evaluate the patients swallowing. Lee Silverman's Program is used to increase enunciation in patients with Parkinson's Disease. An Attention Processing Training program is utilized to increase attending which is basic to everything we do.

Support Groups

Stroke Support Group is held quarterly in the months of February, May, August, and November.  Please call for more information.
