Avera McKennan Women's Center invites you to discover the best place in the region to have your baby!

Our belief of caring for life extends to you and your baby during pregnancy and after delivery. Our dedicated staff of women's and infant's health professionals are experienced in all aspects of the pregnancy process from inception to delivery and beyond.

We feel every expecting mother is special with unique needs, so we provide care specifically tailored to you and your baby during this wonderful time in your lives!

Safety & Expertise

We provide a safe and comfortable environment and give you access to experts who are prepared to help you at any hour. Here are some ways we make you and your baby safer:

  • Our experienced team of perinatologists specializes in taking care of you if you have experienced or do experience serious complications during your pregnancy
  • A special, high-risk antepartum unit is available to provide the most advanced technology during delivery
  • Every delivery suite is located close to a team of neonatologists and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit prepared to care for premature or ill infants
  • Central monitoring in delivery suites allows us to monitor you and your baby's heart rates from the nurses' station or even from your physician's home
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultants are on staff to answer your questions and provide education about breastfeeding your baby
  • All nurses are cross-trained and qualified to help you during and after labor as well as care for your baby in the nursery

Comfort & Convenience

We have the only hospital in Sioux Falls where you labor, deliver and recover in one comfortable suite. There is no need to pack up and move around with your baby. Some other ways we make your stay more comfortable:

  • Your meals are prepared as you request and brought to your room if you wish. Your labor partner will also be provided with meals during your stay
  • Your baby may be with you as much as you desire during your stay. A nursery with professional care-givers is available at any time if you want to rest or have time to yourself
  • All moms and babies are encouraged to come back and visit shortly after discharge to take advantage of our follow-up program - Tender Transitions. We will answer your questions and address any concerns you may have following your delivery
  • You have the opportunity to take part in educational events, classes and support groups
