Community Relations Department
The Community Relations Department develops and distributes information for and about the divisions of Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center and acts as official spokesperson on behalf of the facility.
Reporters and photographers wanting to cover stories about any of our divisions including interviews with medical personnel and patients, are asked to contact Avera Marshall's Community Relations department in advance of the interview. Please call (507) 537-9169 to schedule on-site media visits or to request help in setting up interviews with medical center sources.

Baby Fair
Come to the sixth annual baby fair hosted by Avera Marshall and ACMC. Open to everyone, especially those who are expecting, planning a pregnancy or recently had a baby. Come and see everything your local health care providers have to offer in obstetrical and newborn care. Meet the experts, tour the obstetrics/maternity unit and Avera Marshall Specialty Clinic and register for great prizes. The first 150 people receive a free diaper bag.

Baby Hat & Blanket Marathon Kick-Off
Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center, the Purple Iris Yarn Shop and Fabrics Plus are holding their third annual Baby Hat and Blanket Marathon. The Avera Marshall Foundation purchases supplies and challenges area crafters to make as many blankets and hats as they can in a five-week period.

Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center is Purchased by Avera
The city of Marshall has sold the medical center to Avera in Sioux Falls. The $38.5M acquisition became formal on November 2, 2009.

Avera Marshall Partners with Big Stone Therapies
In the spirit of community collaboration and service excellence, Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center will begin a partnership arrangement with Big Stone Therapies, Inc. to provide management of rehabilitation services. Avera Marshall is a full service hospital and long term care facility, and Big Stone Therapies, Inc. is a company specializing in rehab services.

Third Patient Safety Award for Avera Marshall
Avera Marshall has earned a Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) Patient Safety Excellence Award for its work on preventing retained objects in labor and delivery through the SAFE COUNT initiative.
Because patient safety is a top priority, Avera Marshall joined MHA's SAFE COUNT initiative, where Minnesota teams are working collectively to prevent objects such as sponges from being retained in patients after giving birth. The MHA Patient Safety Excellence Award is given to facilities that have achieved more than 90 percent of the recommended actions.

City Approves Sale of Medical Center to Avera
The city of Marshall is selling the medical center to Avera in Sioux Falls. The city council voted unanimously in favor of the sale at their board meeting on January 27, 2009. The acquisition formally takes place on November 1, 2009.
