Avera Weskota Memorial Hospital, a 28-bed hospital in Wessington Springs, SD, was originally established in 1947 as Jerauld County Hospital to honor those residents of Jerauld County who lost their lives in World War II. The original hospital was established in the remodeled boys' dormitory building known as the McConnell House and was funded through the efforts of 80 Jerauld County men who each advanced $100, plus an additional $35,000 which was netted through the sale of bonds.
Avera Weskota Memorial Hospital has been an affiliate of Avera since 2000. With a tradition of service inspired by the Sisters of the Presentation and Benedictine Orders, Avera Weskota Memorial Hospital serves the health needs of east-central South Dakota with accessible, cost-effective care. Weskota Foundation is a cooperative effort between Avera Weskota Memorial Hospital, Horizon Health Care, Inc. and Weskota Manor Avera.
