Avera Medical Group Dermatology

The board-certified dermatologists of Avera Medical Group Dermatology specialize in the health and diseases of the skin, hair and nails. Each of our physicians has a unique background and different areas of interest, creating a well-rounded practice that offers the latest in diagnosis and treatment.

Dermatology services include the diagnosis and medical or surgical treatment of conditions including skin cancer, dermatitis and skin allergies, moles, warts and other growths, facial and spider veins, sun-damaged skin, birthmarks, psoriasis, acne and more.

Mohs Surgery

If you’ve been diagnosed with skin cancer, Avera Dermatology specialists are trained in Mohs surgery – the most effective technique for removing skin cancer. Under local anesthetic, a surgeon removes the cancer one layer of skin at a time. Each layer is immediately checked under a microscope for cancer cells, and layers are removed until no more cancer is seen. Overall, Mohs surgery eliminates the guesswork in skin cancer removal, producing the best therapeutic and cosmetic results.

The Science of Beauty

Healthy, radiant skin is the essence of beauty. That's why it's so important to trust your skin to a dermatologist. At Avera Medical Group Dermatology, our physicians offer cosmetic procedures and treatments that are proven safe and effective, instead of quick fixes. These include:

On-site Pharmacy

Our on-site pharmacy offers a full range of prescription medications as well as several pick-up options for your convenience. If you have questions, call 605-322-7695.

Preventing Skin Cancer

The health of your skin is important to us, so we want you to know that skin cancer is the most common cancer there is. Exposure to the sun’s UV rays cause 90 percent of skin cancers. You are at higher risk if you have a fair complexion, red hair, freckling, large pigmented skin blemishes, or if you have a personal or family history of skin cancer or a severe childhood burn.

We recommend that everyone use a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects from both ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. Find a product you’re comfortable with, so you’ll use it regularly. Two ingredients to look for in a sun block is either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide.
