Our History
February 10th, 1934, the Benedictine Sisters of Sacred Heart Convent and Dr. J.L. Waldner started what we know as, the Avera St. Benedict Health Care Center, which contained twelve beds. With the new hospital wing opening in 1946 with 34 beds and 12 bassinets, continued to grow and expand until building a new 38 bed acute care hospital in 1965. August of 1988 St. Benedict purchased the Supervised Living homes and attaching the Intermediate Long Term Care Facility in 1989. In 1992 a 3,600 square foot addition was added and Avera St Benedict Health Center.
