November 19, 2008 This Thanksgiving, don’t ‘unbuckle’ until you get home The Thanksgiving holiday should be a joyous time for all families in America, but far too often the celebration turns into tragedy on the state’s highways. Last year, over the long Thanksgiving weekend in South Dakota, there were 260 total reported crashes. From those accidents, the state recorded 57 injuries and seven fatalities. The number of total crashes and injuries over the Thanksgiving time frame is declining, but the level of fatalities is at its highest level.

November 13, 2008 Check out State Street Medical Square at open house The public is welcome to come and see the new Avera St. Luke’s State Street Medical Square at an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20. Featured at the open house will be Aberdeen Family Physicians, the anchor tenant on the first floor of the $11.8 million facility built by Avera St. Luke’s, and State Street Pharmacy.

October 21, 2008 Avera St. Luke’s Supports Proposed Expansion of South Dakota ’s Medical School Avera St. Luke’s supports the proposed expansion of the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota. The University of South Dakota is exploring the expansion of enrollment and increasing class size at the medical school.

October 15, 2008 Cancer Society honors Avera St. Luke’s, plus 2 employees Avera St. Luke’s and two of its employees have been honored with awards from the American Cancer Society, receiving recognition at the 2008 South Dakota Regional Leadership Summit held recently in Sioux Falls.

October 8, 2008 Avera St. Luke’s converts to electronic medical record Patients at Avera St. Luke’s and residents at Avera Mother Joseph and Eureka Health Care Center may notice their nurses spending a little more time at their bedside on a computer, documenting their medical information directly into an electronic medical record (EMR) system.

September 30, 2008 Byron Petersen honored for distinguished service Byron Petersen of Avera St. Luke’s has been honored with the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organization’s “Distinguished Service Award,” receiving the honor at the annual SDAHO convention held in Rapid City.
