Nine registered nurses at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital have earned recognition as Level III clinicians in the hospital’s Nursing Professional Practice Program (PPP). Innovation through teamwork, dedication to caring, excellence in customer service, values of personal responsibility, and respect for self and others are supported through this program.

The Nursing PPP, in its first year, was developed to promote the professional development and growth of registered nurses providing direct care at Avera St. Luke’s. Nurses are encouraged to take the initiative for professional growth and development in their clinical field, enhancing quality of care, improving patient outcomes and promoting nursing and patient satisfaction.
Objectives of the program are to:
- Contribute to an environment/culture of nursing excellence through the delivery of high-level clinical care related to evidence based practice
- Acknowledge and reward nursing expertise and excellence
- Be the employer of choice by enhancing nurse recruitment and retention while fostering professional growth and advancement of staff nurses
- Develop and recognize excellence in leadership
- Achieve quality clinical outcomes by increasing expectations for professional and clinical performance.
The four areas of Community/Leadership, Education, Clinical and Research are key components of the Nursing PPP. Applicants must submit a plan for completion of required and elective criteria in each of the categories. At the close of the year, applicants present their completed portfolio, highlighting areas of excellence and professionalism in their nursing practice.
