First Post of Many!

Connie J Wagner, RN, BSN, MSAS, Operations Manager, Avera Education & Staffing Solutions
I'm not very excitable. Certainly I'm not high strung, edgy or emotional. Maybe you would call me unflappable.
But when I think about a blog, the ho-hum world of education having a blog, and Avera Education & Staffing Solutions sponsoring a blog…now, that excites me!
Remember the days when information was passed from office to office with a hand-written memo? They were hard to read and sometimes even rude. Complaints were bitterly heard throughout organizations regarding lack of communication. Decisions, plans, and general information got lost in the paper shuffle.
Today there is no excuse for poor communication. At our fingertips are e-mail, texting, cell phones, web pages, twitter, and blogs.
A blog! It will tell you about Guidance for Surveyors changes. When there are upcoming Webinars or education conferences in the area, the blog can inform you. Healthcare reform, infection control updates, employee management tips…imagine the subjects that can be discussed!
I am honored to be the first blogger on this site. My vision is a succession of guest bloggers that talk about educational opportunities, advances in health care, and challenges of health care in our area. Do you wish to express your thoughts and opinions? Do you have something to say? Do you want to share a good idea? The blog provides a place to say it and be heard.
AESS will monitor guest blogger's submissions assuring it is appropriate and non-offensive. If you would like to participate, send your blog submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org. It will be reviewed and you will be notified of its posting.
Also, I want to tell you upcoming webinars from AESS. On Wednesday, December 16, 2009 (8:30 am - 12:30 pm) Regan Luken, RN, nursing instructor at USD presents Physical Assessment Part I. On Thursday, January 7, 2010 (8:30 am - 12:30 pm) she presents Physical Assessment Part II. Gwen Maag, RN, will offer Advanced MDS on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 (8:30 am - 12:30 pm). And on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 (11:00 am - 12:00 pm) Marci Pederson, RN, former health facilities surveyor, will host The Next Level of Interpreting Infection Control Guidance for Surveyors.
I'm excited. A blog! I just informed you about advances on our website. I dated myself when discussing handwritten memos (actually, I even remember when doctors and nurses smoked at the nurse's station…Wow!! That's dated!!). You learned about upcoming webinars. Information at it's finest.
