Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society
The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, founded in 1922, is the largest not-for-profit long-term care organization in the United States.
The Society owns or manages Christian Communities of Care in 24 states, employs over 21,000 staff members and serves more than 28,000 residents through a variety of housing and care services.
In order to provide high quality, timely, and consistent training to its geographically dispersed staff, the Society began broadcasting via a satellite network in 1999.
Today the Society broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on a public channel bringing communication, training and education opportunities to staff members and residents.
Through the Society's Distance Learning Network (DLN), employees are able to earn continuing education credits for licensure renewal, take classes toward academic degrees, as well as participate in other communications and learning opportunities.
Residents benefit from the DLN by participating in Senior College, a program that provides life-long learning for seniors.
Courses include:
- "The 1920's and 1930's"
- "Writing Creatively"
- "Health Challenges for Seniors"
- "The Civil War"
- And many more
