Avera Health Plans Expands to Western SD
Avera Health Plans has announced a new affiliation with Mutual Med located in Davenport, Iowa. The new affiliation will expand the Avera Health Plans agent network in South Dakota, Northwest Iowa and Northeast Nebraska.

Avera's telehealth program was recently presented with the American Telemedicine Association's 2009 Presidential Institutional Award at the association's national conference in Las Vegas, Nev. The conference attracted more than 2,700 attendees from 50 different countries.

Avera leadership announced today gifts of more than $13.5 million to be used in innovative initiatives that will transform rural health care delivery at the national level. The grants were awarded to Avera by the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust.

Dr. Amy Krie named a Champion in the Fight Against Cancer
The American Cancer Society has honored Dr. Amy Krie, oncologist with Avera Medical Oncology and Hematology at the Avera Cancer Institute as one of this year’s 2009 American Cancer Society Champions in the Fight Against Cancer. Dr. Krie was one of three people receiving this award at the ACS gala event, “Lights, Camera, Action,” on Friday, March 27 at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls.

For the third year in a row, Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center is among the nation's top hospitals. The Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters today released its annual study identifying the 100 top U.S. hospitals based on their overall organizational performance.
