During your stay, you'll meet many friendly people. They are all here to make you feel better and to help you get well.

  • A Doctor is a person who helps you get well.
  • Nurses take care of you in the hospital.
  • A Therapist is a specialized teacher.
  • A Surgeon performs operations to help fix parts of your body that are sick.
  • Child Life Specialists are special friends in the hospital.
  • Radiologists take x-rays.
  • Housekeepers clean your room.
  • Secretaries help the doctors and nurses keep track of everyone who becomes a patient here at the hospital.
  • Cooks make your food. Patients in Avera Children's Hospital get to eat special food. Sometimes you can choose what to eat from a menu, just like in restaurants.
  • A Patient is a person who stays in the hospital so they can get well again. Maybe that's you!
  • Volunteers are special helpers in the hospital who can help answer your questions or help you and your family figure out where to go in the hospital.
