Femoroacetabular Impingement

This is a condition when the bones in the hip are abnormally shaped and rub together, which causes joint damage over time. There are several types of femoroacetabular impingement: pincer, cam and combined.

Symptoms

  • Pain in the groin area or outside hip
  • Sharp stabbing pain with turning, twisting and squatting

Treatment

  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen
  • Physical therapy
  • Arthroscopic surgery to repair or clean up damage to the labrum and cartilage
