Patella (kneecap) Dislocation

The patella is the triangle-shaped bone covering the knee and can move out of place with a sudden change in direction.


  • Knee appears deformed
  • Knee is bent and can’t straighten
  • Kneecap dislocates to outside of the knee
  • Pain
  • Swelling


  • Stabilization with a splint, possibly a cast
  • Surgery can be done to stabilize the kneecap
