Autonomic Testing Lab
The Avera Neuroscience Institute partners with Neurology Associates to provide physician expertise with sophisticated medical equipment in the region's only Autonomic Testing Lab (ATL). Our state-of-the-art facilities empower our physicians to diagnose and treat disorders of the autonomic nervous system. Although typically seen in only larger health care centers, the Avera Neuroscience Institute has made these specialized services available to you right here at home.
The autonomic nervous system controls bodily functions and enables your body to maintain its internal balance and equilibrium, known as homeostasis. This usually happens without conscious effort and includes regulation of:
- Heart rate
- Blood pressure
- Body temperature
- Bowel and bladder function
- Sexual function
Having an autonomic dysfunction means that one or more of these processes in your body has been disrupted by an underlying illness. Common causes of autonomic dysfunction include:
- Rheumatologic syndromes (arthritis)
- Post-viral syndromes
- Peripheral neuropathy
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Complex regional pain syndrome
The ATL allows us to identify the cause(s) of this disruption and treat not only your symptoms but also to attack the root of the problem. Our treatments have been studied thoroughly and have been proven to be safe and reliable.
