Randy Gannon, BA, CRA
Randy Gannon, certified retinal angiographer, has 19 years of experience as a medical photographer. A certified retinal angiographer (CRA) is a highly trained medical professional specializing in the diagnostic imaging of ocular disease. A CRA performs specialized test like Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Fluorescein Angiography (FA). These tests are crucial to the diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases like glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.
Randy obtained his BA degree in Industrial Scientific Photography from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. Additional ophthalmic medical training was completed at Palomar College in San Diego, California. Randy received his CRA in 2001 and has helped train many photographers and technicians at the annual Ophthalmic Photographers Society meeting. He has been certified in numerous National Institute of Health (NIH) drug and disease studies, including investigations of glaucoma, diabetes, ocular hypertension, and macular degeneration.
For 12 years Randy was employed as a CRA at one of the nation’s top 35 eye centers, UC San Diego’s Shiley Eye Center. He is proud to bring his expertise to the Avera system and looks forward to sharing the latest advancements in diagnostic imaging with Sioux Falls.
Joseph Martin, CO, COMT
As a Certified Orthoptist, Joey has specialized training in the diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of neuromuscular and pediatric eye disorders like strabismus (misaligned eyes), double vision, and amblyopia (lazy eye). Orthoptists collaborate with ophthalmologists in coordinating treatment plans using eye muscle exercises, glasses, prisms, and occlusion therapy with patches or eye drops.
Joey graduated with his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of South Dakota and completed his Orthoptic fellowship at the University of Florida where he also received his certification as an ophthalmic medical technologist. In 2006 he was awarded the Richard G Scobee Memorial Award for the top scores on the national orthoptic certifying boards. He has had the pleasure of working with some of the nation’s top pediatric ophthalmologists at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and at Northwest Eye Clinic in the Twin Cities.
As the only Certified Orthoptist in South Dakota Joey brings his experience in pediatric eye care and preventative screenings to the Sioux Falls community and will be participating in vision screenings at Sioux Falls Catholic Schools to help identify eye disorders at an early age.
