Joseph Martin, CO, COMT
As a Certified Orthoptist, Joey has specialized training in the diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of neuromuscular and pediatric eye disorders like strabismus (misaligned eyes), double vision, and amblyopia (lazy eye). Orthoptists collaborate with ophthalmologists in coordinating treatment plans using eye muscle exercises, glasses, prisms, and occlusion therapy with patches or eye drops.
Joey graduated with his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from the University of South Dakota and completed his Orthoptic fellowship at the University of Florida where he also received his certification as an ophthalmic medical technologist. In 2006 he was awarded the Richard G Scobee Memorial Award for the top scores on the national orthoptic certifying boards. He has had the pleasure of working with some of the nation’s top pediatric ophthalmologists at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and at Northwest Eye Clinic in the Twin Cities.
As the only Certified Orthoptist in South Dakota Joey brings his experience in pediatric eye care and preventative screenings to the Sioux Falls community and will be participating in vision screenings at Sioux Falls Catholic Schools to help identify eye disorders at an early age.
