Avera Transplant Institute

Avera Transplant Institute is the largest and longest-running transplant center in the state of South Dakota, providing excellent care to patients across the region. Known for it's robust program, both in size and scope, Avera Transplant Institute has exceeded nearly 600 solid organ transplants, in addition to over 300 bone marrow transplants.

Avera Transplant Institute conducted its first kidney transplant in 1993, and launched the region's first and only bone marrow transplant program in 1996-a program that provides lifesaving operations for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases. In 2003, Avera added the pancreas transplant program. The Avera Medical Group Liver Disease Sioux Falls, featuring South Dakota's only transplant Hepatologist, opened in 2007.

Avera continues to serve as a leader in transplant services, providing hope and healing for hundreds of patients throughout the region.

In celebration of National Donate Life Month, Donate Life America (DLA) launches a new national Web site, www.donatelife.net, focusing on providing quick and easy access to state donor registries. The site features a new interactive map of the United States that links directly to state donor registration pages.

Re-accreditation

The Avera Transplant Institute’s bone marrow transplant program has been awarded renewed accreditation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) for demonstrating compliance with the FACT-JACIE International Standards for the full scope of bone marrow transplant programming.
