Pancreas Transplant
The Avera Transplant Institute is home to specialists with expertise in pancreas transplant. In response to a growing need for pancreas transplant in the region, we have developed our program under the guidelines of the United Network for Organ Sharing.
Pancreas transplantation benefits people in need of a pancreas transplant due to diabetes type I. For many patients, diabetes has also caused kidney failure requiring kidney transplant. Patients now have the option to treat diabetes in conjunction with their kidney transplant at the Transplant Institute.
We offer different types of pancreas transplantations depending on the needs of our patients, including:
- Pancreas after kidney transplant (PAK)
- Simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplant (SKP)
- Pancreas transplant alone (PTA)
