Avera St. Luke’s hospital-based physician radiology group has joined Avera Medical Group, effective Dec. 1. Dr. Stephen Peters, Dr. Melchor Aguilar, Dr. Daniel Fritz, Dr. Douglas Kimmel, Dr. Les Lenter, Dr. Caroline Lundell and Dr. Sheryl Siegmund-Weekly are now part of Avera Medical Group Radiology Aberdeen.

Kevin Gildner, MD, ob/gyn, is presenting a free women’s health seminar on Tuesday, December 6 at the Landmark Mercantile, next to the Bistro in downtown Marshall. The doors open at 6 p.m. with beverages and light refreshments; the seminar begins at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Gildner will discuss treatment options for women who are experiencing changes in their daily routine caused by frequent trips to the bathroom, pelvic pain or heavy periods.

- Avera Marshall Achieves 99.75 Percent Staff Influenza Vaccination Rate

Because Avera Marshall is concerned for the health of patients, residents and visitors, an employee flu vaccination campaign was held in October to immunize all staff and health care workers. As of November 1, Avera Marshall Employees achieved a 99.75 percent vaccination rate for the 2011-12 year.
- Avera Marshall Auxiliary Funds DXA Equipment Purchase

The Avera Marshall Auxiliary donated funds to purchase medical equipment for Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center. The Auxiliary’s donation of $42,900 was used to purchase DXA (dual x-ray absorptiometry) equipment in the hospital Imaging Center. A DXA machine uses a special, low-dose x-ray to measure bone density. This tells a health care provider a patient’s bone health and risk of fracture. It is often used in the diagnosis of osteoporosis, a disease that thins and weakens bones.
- Goods, Cereal Collected to Help at Enemy Swim

A push led by Avera St. Luke’s Hospital’s Behavioral Health staff has resulted in more than 9,000 pounds of donations of clothing, furniture and rummage sale goods, along with hundreds of boxes of cereal given to help make the holidays a little brighter for their friends in the Enemy Swim tribal area.

Bill Pollard, a paramedic with Avera St. Luke’s CareFlight emergency helicopter transport in Aberdeen, recorded his 1,000th flight on Nov. 7, 2011. Pollard has worked at Avera St. Luke’s since 1999 as a paramedic and in the Emergency Department.
