Baby Hat & Blanket Marathon

February 7 - March 15, 2010

Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center, the Purple Iris Yarn Shop and Fabrics Plus are holding their third annual Baby Hat and Blanket Marathon. The Avera Marshall Foundation purchases supplies and challenges area crafters to make as many blankets and hats as they can in a five-week period. Items can be knitted, crocheted or fleece. Patterns are available. Interested individuals can pick up yarn at Purple Iris or fleece fabric at Fabrics Plus beginning on Sunday, February 7 between noon and 4 p.m. Finished hats and blankets should be returned to the stores by Monday, March 15.

Every year approximately 500 babies are born at Avera Marshall. Each baby goes home with his or her own hand-made hat and blanket created by area crafters. This year the need for blankets is the greatest.
