Avera St. Luke’s Cardiologists Share Results of Study on Savings
At a national conference in Washington, D.C., a poster display presentation based on a study by Avera St. Luke’s Hospital cardiologists showed the tremendous savings of treating heart attack patients at a hospital in a rural setting such as Aberdeen instead of having to transport them to a larger city.
Dr. Larry Sidaway, Dr. Navin Gupta and Dr. Lou Kumar, all from Avera Medical Group Cardiovascular Specialists Aberdeen, along with Karin Sidaway, designed a study to review costs and outcomes, “PCI for STEMI in a Rural Setting Without Surgical Back-Up, A Cost and Outcomes Analysis.” Dr. Sidaway attended the Cardiovascular Research Technology Annual Scientific Session sponsored by Washington Hospital Center.

Area volunteers made 500 blankets and 127 hats during the Baby Hat & Blanket Marathon for the Avera Marshall Foundation. The event is in its fifth year and is supported by the Purple Iris Yarn Shop, Fabrics Plus and Southwest Sewing & Quilting Center.

Learn Healthy Living Tips at ‘Walk for Wellness’
“Walk for Wellness” invites participants to use the controlled environment of Lakewood Mall for a regular walking program. A one-mile course has been measured out at the mall. Avera St. Luke’s Hospital and Lakewood Mall are co-sponsors of this program. Aberdeen Area Parkinson Support Group, led by Shauna Klipfel, director of Avera St. Luke’s Speech Therapy, will meet from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, in Aberdeen at Presentation College, 1500 N. Avera Marshall's Imaging Center has been awarded three-year terms of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound as the result of recent reviews by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The mammography program has also been continually accredited since 1988.
