Free Melanoma Screenings Offered in Aberdeen
Did you know that roughly one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in his or her lifetime? Avera St. Luke’s is teaming up with Avera Aberdeen Family Physicians and Aberdeen Dermatology Associates to offer free melanoma screenings on Wednesday, May 30.

'Oncology on Canvas' Art Exhibit Coming to Avera St. Luke’s May 30-31
The first day of a cancer diagnosis begins one of life's most profound journeys. The Lilly Oncology on Canvas art competition and exhibition provides everyone affected by cancer with the opportunity to express life-affirming changes that give that journey meaning and to share their cancer journey through art.
Winning artwork from this unique traveling art competition is coming to Aberdeen. The free public exhibit, which is touring nationwide, showcases select pieces of art from the 2010 Oncology on Canvas competition. The art reproductions will be on display May 30-31 in Aberdeen in Avera St. Luke’s Hospital’s southeast lobby (use door #3), at Conklin Regional Cancer Center and at Avera St. Luke’s Cancer Care Center. On June 1, the display will move to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event.

Open House Showcases Avera St. Luke’s Medical Care Division Remodel
Completion of Avera St. Luke’s Hospital’s Third Floor - Medical Care Division remodeling and redesign will be celebrated with an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 9. This event will include a tour, discussion of upgrades and patient-focused improvements, plus refreshments. A blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 2:45 p.m.
The $1.2 million project is highlighted by decentralized nurses’ stations and a new floor design that increases effectiveness in the delivery of care, improves patient safety, reduces staff stress, and ultimately improves outcomes and the overall quality of health care that Avera St. Luke’s provides.

Around 3:15 a.m. on Saturday morning (4/14/2012), the Avera St. Luke’s Careflight helicopter was returning to the hospital after refueling at the airport when the pilot in command heard an unusual noise in the aircraft and began to perform a precautionary landing.
