Avera St. Luke’s staff certified in Sportsmetrics™
Theresa Backous, Avera St. Luke’s Sports Medicine and Acceleration Manager, and Joe Dudley, Acceleration supervisor, have become certified in Sportsmetrics™, a program that assists in reducing the risks of serious knee injury and enhances athletic performance.
As certified instructors, Backous and Dudley can use Sportsmetrics as part of an injury reduction program, a rehabilitation program, as well as using the techniques to enhance performance. Avera St. Luke's will start offering this nationally recognized program to athletes in the Aberdeen region in June.
Sportsmetrics is the only injury prevention program that offers certification, while having access to the latest research in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and prevention from nationally-known researcher Dr. Frank Noyes. The Sportsmetrics program has seen great success with female soccer and basketball athletes, but has helped properly train athletes of both sexes and from many sports. Sportsmetrics is also the first ACL injury prevention program scientifically proven to decrease serious knee ligament injuries in female athletes.
The Sportsmetrics™ program, developed and supported by Cincinnati Sports Medicine, uses jumping drills to teach the athlete to pre-position the entire body safely when accelerating (jumping) or decelerating (landing), along with sport specific speed, agility, strength and conditioning drills to complement this ACL injury prevention program.
