Therapy Addition Enhances Avera St. Luke’s Services
A new 14,000-square-foot, $3 million therapy addition to Avera St. Luke’s Therapy Center will enhance services and improve patient convenience, combining all outpatient rehabilitation therapy services in one centralized location near the hospital.
Groundbreaking ceremonies were held Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at 805 First Ave. S.E. As part of the hospital’s growth and expansion plans, massage therapy moved to the center and Aberdeen Family Y in 2009, and outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy services will be moving from Avera St. Luke’s Midland campus to the new site on April 9, 2012. The addition will connect to the east side of the existing Therapy Center, which opened in 2005, and link to the west side of Avera Dakota Medical Square.
“Our goal and our vision was always to consolidate all of our outpatient rehabilitation services onto one site,” said K.C. DeBoer, vice president of Avera St. Luke’s Hospital Division. “This will provide a healing atmosphere that our patients will find beneficial to their recovery, and it will be a convenient, central location for all of their rehabilitation needs.” The therapy center is located about two blocks north of the hospital.
The addition includes a therapy gym, patient, staff and support spaces.
Avera St. Luke’s Therapy Center, featuring the region’s largest warm water therapy pool, also connects to the east side of the Aberdeen Family Y. With the emphasis nationwide shifting to fighting obesity and getting healthier, Avera St. Luke’s connection to the Y’s fitness center helps combine rehabilitation, health, wellness and personal fitness, all in one handy location in Aberdeen.
