Avera Medical Group Welcomes Radiation Oncologists, Drs. Schneekloth and Schlager 

Barbara Schlager, MD Kathleen Schneekloth, MD SIOUX FALLS (Feb 15, 2012) – Avera Medical Group is pleased to welcome Dr. Kathleen Schneekloth and Dr. Barbara Schlager to the practice of Avera Medical Group Radiation Oncology.

Drs. Schneekloth and Schlager have long been affiliated with Avera McKennan and the Avera Cancer Institute in the practice of radiation oncology, and recently have joined Avera as employed physicians.

These physicians provide comprehensive radiation therapy services at the Avera Cancer Institute, located in the newly-constructed Prairie Center on the Avera McKennan campus in Sioux Falls, and also at an Avera Cancer Institute satellite clinic at 1417 S. Minnesota Ave., the former MedXRay location. Both sites offer clinic care and outpatient radiation therapy services.

State-of-the-art cancer care technology at the Avera Cancer Institute complements the medical expertise of this team. This includes two matched ARTISTE™ linear accelerators, a CT simulator, a dedicated brachytherapy suite, and IntraOperative Electron Radiation Therapy (IOeRT).

Dr. Schneekloth, a native of South Dakota, received her medical degree from Creighton University and completed her Radiation Oncology residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center in San Francisco, Calif. She has two years of specialty training in High Dose Rate Brachytherapy and was the Medical Director for San Francisco Brachytherapy, where she established four prostate seed implant programs. She is on the South Dakota State Leadership Council, as well as the International Advisory Committee for the American Cancer Society.  

Dr. Schlager specializes in the treatment and diagnosis of breast, gynecologic, gastrointestinal tract and prostate cancers. Throughout her 33-year career, Dr. Schlager has gained extensive experience in a vast array of highly sophisticated equipment, has been appointed to several committees and is a published author of several medical journal articles. She holds a medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia. She completed residency and fellowship in Radiation Oncology at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia, and a residency in General Radiology at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. She is certified in general radiology and therapeutic radiology by the American Board of Radiology.
