Area volunteers made 500 blankets and 127 hats during the Baby Hat & Blanket Marathon for the Avera Marshall Foundation. The event is in its fifth year and is supported by the Purple Iris Yarn Shop, Fabrics Plus and Southwest Sewing & Quilting Center.

The Avera Marshall Foundation purchased supplies and challenged area crafters to make as many blankets and hats as they could between January 19 and February 14. Every year approximately 500 babies are born at Avera Marshall. Each baby goes home with his or her own hand-made hat and blanket created by area crafters.

Organizers presented hats and blankets to Avera Marshall Foundation Director Marty Seifert on February 14.
