Avera St. Luke’s FastCare and Kessler’s Team Up to Offer Free Flu Shots for Kids

ABERDEEN (Oct. 4, 2012) – Avera St. Luke’s FastCare and Kessler’s are teaming up to protect your kids against the flu by holding a FREE seasonal flu vaccination clinic Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kessler’s supermarket. Please use the south door.

Children ages 12 months to 12 years, accompanied by a parent or guardian, are eligible to receive an annual vaccination against the influenza virus. Children who receive an immunization will get a special treat provided by Kessler’s!

“We expect to see the number of patients with flu-like symptoms increase in our clinics in the next several weeks and months, and the best way to protect children from the getting the flu is by getting them vaccinated, ” said Mike Opp, director of clinics for Avera Medical Group.

Parents should also encourage kids to wash their hands with soap and warm water before eating and after play, cover their coughs, and keep their hands out of their eyes and mouth to help prevent the spread of the influenza virus.

“We are excited to partner with Avera to offer this free event to the children of our community,” added Reed Kessler, manager of Kessler’s. “Not only will the kids get a special treat, but we will also have something for the moms, dads or guardians who bring their kids to the clinic.”

No appointment is necessary for the flu shot clinic, and vaccinations will be given on a first come, first served basis.
