Enjoy Free Ice Cream and Aberdeen Municipal Band concert

Come enjoy cool treats, great tunes and listen to guest soloist and Aberdeen native Maria McDermott Morton. It’s all part of the Aberdeen Municipal Band concert, featuring the “Big Band” sound on Thursday, July 19, at Melgaard Park, hosted by Avera St. Luke’s Hospital.

The free ice cream social starts at 7:30 p.m., followed by music at 8 p.m. Avera Health Plans is proud to sponsor Morton, a talented vocalist who sang with the U.S. Air Force Heartland of America Band “Looking Glass” while stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb. Morton will sing songs from the 1940s and 1950s, as well as some new swing tunes. She now lives and teaches in Des Moines, IA. Morton has entertained several times at past Aberdeen Municipal Band concerts.

People attending the concert are urged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, since limited seating is available. There will be chances to win several prizes throughout the evening, so make sure to grab a ticket for the drawings. The entire evening is free, and people of all ages are invited — compliments of Avera St. Luke’s, Avera Health Plans, and the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department.
