National Cancer Survivors Day Celebration Planned

The Avera Queen of Peace Cancer Center physicians and staff are sponsoring an event for National Cancer Survivors Day entitled “Survivorship Through the Arts” on Wednesday, May 30, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Avera Queen of Peace Cancer Center. According to Charlene Berke, Director of the Cancer Center, “The public is invited to join us in this celebration of life! Guests will be invited to view the Lilly Oncology on Canvas art exhibit created by cancer survivors. In addition, John Paul II Elementary students have created pictures, poems, cards, and essays to symbolize hope and inspiration for our cancer survivors.”

Berke continued, “Refreshments will be served from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and T-shirts will be given to all cancer survivors. There will be a blessing and prayer at 5:00 p.m. which will pay special tribute to those who have experienced cancer.”

National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual world-wide celebration of life that is held in hundreds of communities. On National Cancer Survivors Day, the Avera Cancer Centers unite to show that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful and productive.
