Avera Named an Integrated Health System to Know
Avera Health was named on Becker’s list of 100 Integrated Health Systems to Know. This designation focuses on health systems’ continuum of care from preventative to urgent care, inpatient care, outpatient care, hospice, health plan offerings and more. The Becker’s Hospital Review selected Avera Health based on the rankings by health care analytics company IMS Health as well financial, clinical and operational strength.
Avera Brady Health & Rehab Named One of The Best
Avera Brady Health & Rehab, Mitchell, S.D., has been named of one the best nursing home by Women Certified®, the Home of the Women’s Choice award. Women Certified named 172 nursing homes in the nation as the best after a selection process including a star rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and then applies their own standards for women’s preferences and priorities.
Avera St. Mary’s Hospital Names CEO
Paul Ebmeier has been named the Regional President and CEO of Avera St. Mary’s in Pierre, S.D. Paul will provide leadership for Avera’s clinic, hospital and long-term care facilities within the Avera St. Mary’s region. Currently Paul is the Chief Operations Officer at Centura Health Physicians Group in Englewood, Colo. He is looking forward to moving back to his homes state with his wife and two children.
Avera@Home Launches July 1
Avera@Home will begin Hospice and Home Health services July 1, 2013. Avera@Home services will initially be available in the Avera Queen of Peace region and the Avera McKennan region. Physicians, nurses, aids and volunteers will be working with patients and their caregivers within their home setting to provide quality care where the patient needs it.
Avera Clinical Pastoral Education Certified
The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Accreditation Commission voted to grant continued Accredited Membership to offer programs of Level I/Level II CPE and Supervisory CPE without notations to the Avera Health CPE program. This accreditation will remain in effect until 2022. CPE is conducted at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Center, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center, Marshall, Minn.; Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell, S.D.; Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, S.D.; Avera Holy Family Hospital, Estherville, Iowa; and Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D. Reactivation of the training program accreditation at Avera St. Mary's Hospital is underway.
New Clinics Open in Huron and Ivanhoe
Avera Medical Group Specialty Clinic Huron opened June 19. The clinic will provide services in the areas of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics and sports medicine, occupational medicine along with surgery.
Starting in July, Avera Medical Group Ivanhoe will provide family medicine services from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday. There is one onsite, full-time provider to offer care.
Human Resources Makes the Move to Central Office Employment
All human resources employees will be part of the Avera central office staff on July 1, 2013. This follows the plans outlined through the centralization of human resources and their services throughout the last two years. Employees may not be moving physical locations, but will be part of the Avera Central Office staff.
Documentation Improvement Project
On July 1, 2013 a project called Every Word Counts will kick off. The upcoming changes to health care and payment reform have made proper documentation vital to our health system including but not limited to value based purchasing, accountable care and ICD-10. To make our documentation easy, complete and cohesive, Avera will provide weekly teleconferences, newsletter and periodic on-site education sessions. Documentation will change from being a means of coordination among care team members to a key measure of our health system’s excellence and overall financial stability.
Ribbon Cutting for the Avera Patient Financial Services Center
The Avera Patient Financial Services Center will have a ribbon cutting at 1308 West 15th Ave, Mitchell, S.D., on Wednesday, June 26. This facility has been operational since April and currently has 12 associates. Jim Voyles, Director, hopes to grow to 50 associates.
Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center and Avera St. Luke’s Hospital Receive Trauma Certifications
Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center was recently re-certified as a Level III Trauma Center. Avera St. Luke’s Hospital was designated a Level III Trauma Center. This means both hospitals provide the gold standard in trauma care in their emergency departments.
