Hegg Memorial Health Center Named For A Second Time To Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in America

ROCK VALLEY, IA (Sept. 10, 2013) For the second year in a row, the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) announced recently that Hegg Memorial Health Center was named as one of the top 100 critical access hospitals in America for 2013. The top 100 hospitals scored best on the Hospital Strength Index, in this first-ever comprehensive rating of critical access hospitals.

This index offers hospital executives, trustees and board of directors an objective way to measure their relative performance among their peers and across 56 different performance metrics to help identify those hospitals that are best prepared for success under the new healthcare. The index includes a unique set of measures rating Market Strength, Value-based strength and Financial Strength as key pillars for benchmarking and setting new goals under health reform. Hegg Memorial scored in the 99th percentile for value based strength, which measures quality, outcomes, patient satisfaction, and low cost. HMHC ranks in the top 8% of hospitals nationally on the “Overall Strength Index.”

“We are honored to be included as one of the top 100 CAH hospitals in the nation. It affirms that we have great providers and staff members who care for the members of our community.”-Glenn Zevenbergen, HMHC CEO.

The Hospital Strength Index reflects the multiple challenges of running a hospital by incorporating the measures on which the industry has worked to gain consensus and standardizations. “Rural hospitals play a critical role in providing needed care to communities across America, yet the challenges are completely different while being as complex as urban hospitals. The need for enhanced performance and a framework for success are equally important as hospitals prepare for the impact of health reform,” said John Morrow, EVP of iVantage Health Analytics.
