Avera Recognized as American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Worksite

Avera Health was recently recognized as a Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association for helping employees eat better and move more.

The Fit-Friendly Worksites program is a catalyst for positive change in the American workforce by helping worksites make their employees’ health and wellness a priority. Fit-Friendly worksites:

  • Offer employees physical activity options in the workplace.
  • Increase healthy eating options at the worksite.
  • Promote a wellness culture in the workplace.
  • Implement at least nine criteria outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.

In addition, Platinum-Level Fit-Friendly Worksites also are able to demonstrate measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness.

According to Kimberly Enebo, Vice President, Total Rewards at Avera, Avera Health has made a strong commitment to the health of its employees through its To Your Health program.

“Employees are encouraged to take part in annual health screenings, health coaching, fitness initiatives and more,” said Enebo. “As a health care organization, we not only place the health of our patients at top priority, but also the health and well-being of our employees. We strive to make participation in To Your Health fun and rewarding, with the hopes that employees will take ownership of their personal health outcomes.”

Recognition is a critical component of the Fit-Friendly Worksites program. Employers that join this program qualify for official recognition by the American Heart Association. They are listed on the program’s national website, as well as receiving local recognition at the Sioux Falls Heart Walk. Qualifying worksites also have the right to use the program’s annual recognition seal for internal communications and with external, recruitment-related communications.
