New Online Guide Helps in the Search for Mental Health Resources

SIOUX FALLS (April 14, 2014) – Sioux Falls Helpline Center and Avera McKennan Behavioral Health Services are proud to announce a new online Sioux Falls Mental Health Resource Guide, accessed on the Helpline Center’s website.

The new guide is an online searchable database of mental health resources in the Sioux Falls area, including providers, agencies and professionals. Additional resources include a guide for selecting a mental health practitioner, a glossary of professional accreditations, and a complete listing of all entries in the mental health guide in the form of a PDF document.

“This guide is set up to be an easy-to-use, one-stop resource for people who are struggling with a mental health issue, or for people seeking help for a loved one,” said Helpline Center Executive Director Janet Kittams-Lalley. “When a crisis occurs, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless. This guide empowers people using the tool by breaking down the options into a simple format, giving them information in a way that will allow them to make the best possible choices for their situation.”

“We want to remove as many barriers as possible as people seek help for various mental health conditions, whether that’s depression, anxiety, addiction, substance abuse disorder, or other illnesses,” said Thomas Otten, Director of Behavioral Health Inpatient Services for Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center. “Less than half of children and adults with diagnosable mental health conditions receive the help they need. Here in the Sioux Falls region, we hope to change that disturbing statistic.”
