About Us

Our mission is to be a progressive healthcare partner, serving you with compassion, integrity and excellence.

At Floyd Valley Hospital, we will develop relationships and strategically expand services in order to be recognized as a leader of health care for our community.

In the Beginning

On December 1, 1966, after forty years of dedicated service, the Sisters of Francis sold Sacred Heart Hospital to the City of LeMars. Upon purchase of the now municipal hospital, the name was changed to Floyd Valley Hospital. In June of 1976, the hospital was relocated to its current location along Highway 3 and was constructed through $1.5 million in pledges from the residents of the Floyd Valley service area, $.5 million in general obligation bonds from the City of LeMars, and $200,000 from the federal government. Since its original structure, the hospital has completed two additions, one in 1994 and one in 2004. In July of 2009, the hospital completed an asset purchase agreement and acquired Medical Associates, P.C. which is now Family Medicine Clinics.

Today the Floyd Valley Hospital organization includes the hospital, the family medicine clinics in Le Mars, Marcus and Remsen, public health, and Park Place Estates Assisted Living. We also serve people in their homes through community health and home medical equipment services. Floyd Valley Hospital is licensed by the State of Iowa, affiliated with the Avera System of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and is a member of the Iowa and American Hospital Associations. The hospital also provides a clinical setting for students enrolled in various nursing and other clinical areas for colleges throughout Northwest Iowa and South Dakota.
