Institutional Review Board
The Avera Institutional Review Board (IRB) assists investigators engaged in human subject research to conduct their research along ethical guidelines reflecting professional as well as community standards. In addition, Avera has an obligation to ensure that all research involving human subjects meets regulations established by the United States Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)
The Avera IRB is composed of affiliated and community members representing Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center, Avera Sacred Heart Hospital and Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.

In addition to entities within the Avera system, the Avera Institutional Review Board serves as the "IRB of Record" for the Avera Heart Hospital and the Sioux Falls Surgical Hospital. The Avera Institutional Review Board (IRB) serves as an ethical review board to protect the rights and welfare of individuals who serve as subjects of research conducted within the Avera system and to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory codes.
