MonaLisa Touch™ Treatment – Feel Like Yourself Again

If you experience vaginal dryness, burning or painful intercourse, you may benefit from the latest treatment for vaginal and vulvar atrophy – the MonaLisa Touch™. This simple, safe and clinically-proven laser treatment is now available at Avera Medical Group Urogynecology.

During this minimally-invasive procedure – which only takes a few minutes and feels similar to a Pap smear – a laser stimulates collagen production in order to help the vaginal tissue return to its optimal state. Many women experience minimal to no discomfort or downtime and notice positive results almost immediately.

As a non-hormonal treatment, MonaLisa Touch is also ideal for breast cancer survivors.

What is Urogynecology?

Urogynecology is a crossover between Urology and Obstetrics/Gynecology with a focus on female pelvic floor disorders (PFDs). The classic issue that women experience is pelvic organ prolapse. This can lead to symptoms including urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, urgency and frequency, fecal incontinence, constipation, pelvic pain, pelvic pressure or painful intercourse.

Typically, these issues affect women after menopause, but it can happen to younger women, especially associated with childbirth.

The most common complaint is urinary incontinence, that may range from leaking a little urine when you laugh or sneeze to being home-bound because you fear having an accident in public.

Treatment options include physical therapy, medications, biofeedback, minimally invasive treatments such as painless vaginal laser treatment, and same day surgical techniques. It's an advancing field, with more effective treatment than in the past.

Common Urogynecologic Conditions

  • 15% of all women suffer from some form of urinary incontinence
  • 30% of women over the age of 65 are affected by urinary incontinence
  • 40% of women over the age of 18 suffer from pelvic organ prolapse
  • 1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with incontinence in their lifetime
  • 75% of women who experience significant improvement or are cured with appropriate diagnosis and treatment
