The main focus of respiratory therapy is helping to diagnose and treat respiratory diseases and complications.
The diagnosing and treating respiratory diseases and complications is done through:
- Administering nebulized medications
- Providing chest physical therapy
- Continuous ventilation
- Oxygen therapy
Other Respiratory Therapy Functions
The respiratory therapy department also does arterial blood gas sampling, pulmonary function testing and the newest modality, sleep diagnostic testing. Pulmonary rehabilitation and asthma programs are also offered regularly to the community.
Respiratory diseases or ailments are one of the most common causes for admission to the hospital. The respiratory therapy department plays a significant role in aiding and treating a number of patients on a daily basis ranging in age from newborn to the elderly.
Staff work in the emergency room, with many deliveries, and any patient who is identified as potentially needing our services. All the therapists are trained and certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Neonatal Life Support and participate on the code blue and trauma teams.
