Avera McKennan Hospital's First Century of Caring

A Journey of Faith,
A Destination of Excellence.

McKennan throughout the years

It all started over 100 years ago with Helen Gale McKennan's dream of a community hospital that would serve and benefit humanity. Her dream became a reality through a group of dedicated women—the Sisters of the Presentation and Benedictine Orders—who, over the years, have gathered around them a vast knowledge of expertise, talent and ability.

Through the last 100 years, we have remained a consistent leader in local and regional health care, providing the latest technological advancements and comprehensive services—all guided by Christian values and by participating in the healing ministry of Jesus. Now, not only a hospital, Avera McKennan is an integrated care network of regional hospitals, clinics, long-term facilities and more.

In the century to come, Avera will mobilize its resources in an effort to meet the coming challenges. The mission statement of Avera McKennan remains a simple but timeless message that will allow the health system to move forward with integrity: Avera is a health ministry rooted in the Gospel. Our mission is to make a positive impact in the lives and health of persons and communities by providing quality services guided by Christian values.
