Gala for a Century
Thank you to everyone for attending and supporting the Gala for a Century held on November 11, 2011. It was a wonderful night for employees, supporters and the community to remember our past and look forward to our future of providing world-class health care.
Through the recognition of our unique and rich heritage, Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center has become an integral part of the future of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the region.

Fall Donor Recognition Reception
Prior to the gala event, generous and loyal supporters of Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center and the Avera McKennan Foundation gathered for the Fall Donor Recognition Reception hosted by the Avera McKennan Foundation.
Hosted by Ted Muenster, long-time supporter of Avera McKennan and foundation fundraising consultant, the evening opened with live music and a prayer from Sister Mary Thomas.
The Recipients

The Avera Spirit Award was presented to the Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Aberdeen, SD for their long-term dedication to the mission of Avera McKennan. Their exceptional commitment continues to further our mission to make a positive impact in the lives and health of persons and communities by providing quality services guided by Christian values.

The Helen McKennan Award was presented to Jim Woster for his leadership role in our healing ministry and who has inspired and mentored others. Through the 32 years Jim has been supporting Avera McKennan, his leadership extends past the mission of Avera to influence and impact the local community and beyond.

The Cornerstone Award was presented to Bob Baker with The First National Bank in Sioux Falls in recognition of a business or organization that has demonstrated outstanding commitment. Bob Baker, Vice President of The First National Bank in Sioux Falls, currently serves on the Avera McKennan Foundation Board of Directors has been involved in numerous fundraising campaigns and events, such as the Avera Race Against Breast Cancer.
- And finally, the Compass Award was presented to Brad Grossenburg in recognition of his volunteer and leadership skills. Brad has been a supporter of Avera McKennan for the past 15 years. He serving on the Avera McKennan Hospital Board of Trustees for 8 years and the Avera McKennan Foundation Board of Directors for 6 years.
'
The Guardian' award
The recognition ceremony featured a special presentation of a custom-crafted award for which select donors were given. This award, which was commissioned by the Avera McKennan Foundation, is a replica of a sculpture currently located on the Avera McKennan Campus. Appropriately titled "The Guardian", the one-foot bronze piece was given to five individuals as a gesture of appreciation for their contributions.
