Patient Services Representative

It may seem to be a behind-the-scenes position, but Patient Services Representatives are truly at the forefront of patient care. Along with ensuring patients feel welcome, typical duties include answering phone calls, scheduling appointments and surgeries, maintaining the doctor's calendar and tending to general office duties.

Deona's Story

Deona Spicer worked as a Patient Services Representative in the Avera Women's Clinic for five years, each day interacting with women from all stages of life. As each patient shares their story, Deona listens with the care that radiates throughout Avera.

Qualifications

Patient Services Representative Qualifications

Applicants for our Patient Services Representative position should have the following qualifications.

  • High school diploma or general education degree or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Uphold Avera’s standards of Communication, Attitude, Responsiveness and Engagement (CARE) with enthusiasm and sincerity.

Note that other qualifications might be required based on position and experience.

Q: How many physicians would I work with?
This depends on the individual clinic. Some PSR’s work primarily with one physician team; while other PSR’s work with multiple physicians and staff.

Q: As a PSR, would I float to other clinics?
Typically a PSR works in one clinic. At times we have openings for Float PSRs, if this is the case; the position will be posted as a Float PSR position.
