Pharmacy Practice Residency Program
The Pharmacy Practice Residency Program at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center is designed to develop clinical pharmacy practitioners who are competent and able to administer quality pharmaceutical care.
Applications for residency positions are currently being accepted. Qualifications for candidacy are a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and licensure or eligibility for licensure in South Dakota. Interested candidates should send a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, a completed Avera McKennan Application for Employment and academic transcripts to Glenn Voss at Avera McKennan (contact information below).
Program Goals
- Provide pharmaceutical care to patients in a variety of settings.
- Educate students, healthcare providers and patients.
- Develop project management and problem-solving skills.
- Improve drug information skills.
- Plan, initiate and document pharmaceutical care services.
- Maintain a professional and ethical manner.
- Develop leadership skills in pharmacy practice.
- Utilize medical informatics.
- Contribute to formulary decisions.
Professional Experience
The program for each resident is based on his/ her goals, interests and experiences. All residents are required to complete rotations in core subject areas essential to the clinical pharmacy practitioner. Additional learning experiences include a project relating to pharmacy practice, development of oral & written communication skills, participation in various leadership and practice management committees, and practice in various patient care areas throughout the institution.

- Management/quality improvement
- Drug information
- Critical care
- Nutrition
- Pediatrics
- Neonatology
