Surgical Pain Management

Pain management is a critical component of every surgery. Your surgeon, anesthesiologist, pharmacist and nurse will each play an important role in pain control during your hospital stay.

Our effective team approach allows patients to rest, recover, and achieve early mobility, while limiting the complications associated with inadequate or excessive medication delivery.

During your hospital stay, there are pain services to adequately manage your pain after surgery. If you are experiencing pain while recovering, please ask your nurse to coordinate with the acute pain service team.

Patient and Family Resources

Our team has resources to assist patients and families while at Avera McKennan for surgery.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation after surgery can be a very important aspect of your care. Rehab can involve minor exercises or routines or in-depth care to help you recover successfully.

Patient Trackers

Patient tracking boards are located in the two main surgery locations on our campus. These boards show the current status of your loved one throughout the surgical experience.

Family are provided a tracking number unique to their loved one so they can follow progress and plan their time as guests in our facilities.

Food & Cafeteria

Avera McKennan Cafeteria

Avera McKennan is home to a full service cafeteria, located on the ground floor of the main hospital building. The cafeteria includes salad bar, full menu items, sandwich bar, drinks, desserts and more.

Quarry Cafe

Located in the Prairie Center on the Avera McKennan campus, the Quarry Café offers great food and a great view. The Café serves breakfast and lunch in addition to a variety of beverages. Hours are Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Wireless Internet

Our campus includes wireless Internet for patients and visitors. Visitors who have a computer or mobile device that is able to pick up our wireless connection will be able to connect to the Internet while they wait for their loved one during surgery.

Digital Art Wall

The Prairie Center, home of the Avera Surgery Center, is home to our Community Digital Art Wall. This display measures over 15 feet long and seven feet tall. Fifteen monitors utilize cutting edge technology, providing crisp, sharp, beautiful imagery of art work created throughout the community. Throughout the year, the art show on display changes so viewers can see new art when they visit.

Concierge

A concierge is available at the Avera Surgery Center, located in the Prairie Center. The concierge will greet patients and visitors in the Prairie Center and can help you find where you need to go.
