Type of Rehab: Inpatient
Location(s): Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center
Recovery from a serious accident or illness does not end with when you are discharged from the hospital.
People who have suffered a serious injury such as traumatic brain injury or stroke can run into many challenges in their everyday lives. Our Easy Street program is available to help you recover.
Easy Street is a replica of an actual city street with store fronts, newspaper stands, telephones and other common city sites. It includes a grocery store, bank, restaurant, apartment, greenhouse, laundromat and movie theater. Patients learn how to navigate stairs, cope with high shelves and handle other everyday challenges.
Easy Street provides a meaningful setting for physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapy. Through careful observation, the capabilities of the patient can be evaluated to determine what services, equipment or treatment will be needed after the patient's discharge.
