What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is the frequent stoppage of breathing caused by relaxed tissues in the throat during sleep. In addition to excessive snoring, these stoppages can lead to an increasingly restless sleep. Sleep apnea can be a dangerous condition, as disrupted breathing strains the heart and other vital functions.

Years of untreated sleep apnea can greatly increase your risk of:

  • High blood pressure
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Stroke
  • Depression
  • Impaired functioning, leading to accidents or death

Not to mention conditions commonly associated with a lack of sleep, including:

  • Irritability
  • Mood changes
  • Lowered sexual drive
  • Reduction of intellectual ability
  • Loss of productivity
