Why is Avera offering this app?
More and more people are using smart phones. It's estimated that 1.4 billion smart phones will be in use by 2015 and 500 million will have a health-related application loaded on them. Some 5 billion apps were downloaded in 2012, and that’s expected to increase to 21 billion by 2013! There are nearly 6,000 medical apps available for download, and that number will only grow. Avera wanted to offer a health app from a locally known and trusted source.
On what devices is the mobile app available?
Avera Health to Go is currently available for Apple (iPads and iPhones) and Android devices. We’re sorry, but versions do not exist at this time for Windows mobile phones, Kindle Fire/Amazon or Nook Tablet. We will keep an eye on demand for these versions in the future.
How do I download this app?
Go to the apps store from your Apple or Android device, and you will find Avera Health to Go in the alphabetical listing. You can download the app completely free of charge.

How will this app be useful to me?
You can access a wealth of helpful health information, find an Avera location, or follow a GPS map to your doctor’s clinic. You can also enter your family’s insurance information, including a scan of the front and back of your insurance card, so it’s always right at hand when you need to reference it. You can track your own health information, for example, your weight, your blood sugar and blood pressure readings, and your cholesterol. If you are a sufferer of migraine headaches, you can track your headaches, as to when they occur, where you feel the pain, and more. You can track what medications you are taking and when you take them, with notifications so you don't miss a dose. If you suffer from a behavioral health condition like depression, you can track your moods using myMood, developed with insight from Avera psychiatrist Dr. Matthew Stanley. You can use health tracker information yourself, share it with friends and family, share it with a health coach, or show it to your physician.
When you need general health information, it's always right at your fingertips in the form of 1,000 easy-to-read articles provided by the Mayo Medical Library. And the First Aid guide is particularly handy for those unexpected injuries or emergencies, so you know just what to do until help arrives.
Are there monitoring devices that connect to the app to collect health data?
No, this technology exists, but it is still in development, so at this time Avera chose to offer an app in which users enter the information via the device’s keypad. In the future, we can certainly expect that health apps like Avera Health to Go will connect to personal monitors.
What if I have a health condition that is not tracked by Avera Health to Go?
More trackers will be added in the future as demand warrants, for example, child development.
When I enter health information, does my doctor receive it?
No. This is your personal information that remains stored on your device, unless you choose to share it with someone else.
Will my doctor be interested in receiving this information?
That is something to discuss with your personal physician. It’s important to note that Avera Health to Go is not meant to substitute in any way for your physician’s care. It is not meant to provide medical advice. If you suspect that you have a medical condition, you should contact your medical provider. Avera cannot be responsible for how you use any health information that you access through your app.
Was this app created by Avera?
